David Guice was born and raised in Buncombe County.  He graduated from TC Roberson High School in 1974 and is a graduate of Montreat Anderson College and Mars Hill College.  David and his wife Kerry of 28 years have two children; Lindsey who is an attorney for the North Carolina Innocence Commission in Raleigh and Colby who is a project foreman with Rogers Masonry in Brevard.

David worked for over 30 years, retiring in 2009, with the North Carolina Department of Correction, Division of Community Corrections.  He joined the Department as a Probation/Parole Officer and later served as an administrator.  In addition to his duties as a state employee, he and Kerry owned and operated a small business in Brevard for 20 years.

In 2000 David was elected to his first of two terms as a member of the Transylvania County Board of Commissioners.  During his eight years as a member of the County Commissioners David served as both Chairman and Vice-Chairman.  In addition to his role as an elected official in Transylvania County, David served the people in the community through various volunteer leadership roles.  For many years he served as Chairman of the SAFE  Board of Directors, which is a local nonprofit domestic violence awareness organization.  Additionally, he served on the Transylvania County Economic Development Advisory Board, Tourism Development Authority, Brevard Chamber of Commerce, the Criminal Justice Partnership Program (CJPP), Gorges State Park Advisory Board, the Transylvania County Personnel Board, the Transylvania County Courthouse Security Committee and Chaired the Public Safety Facility Planning Committee.

David was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives in 2008, serving Transylvania County, Polk County and southern portions of Henderson County. In the North Carolina House of Representatives David is a member of the Joint Appropriations Committee, the Appropriations Subcommittee on Justice and Public Safety, the Agriculture Committee, the Juvenile Justice Committee, the Local Government II Committee, the Judiciary III Committee, the Joint Legislative Corrections, Crime Control and Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee and the Committee on Ex-Offender Reintegration Into Society. Additionally, he is a member of the bi-partisan group participating in the Justice Reinvestment Initiative which is led by the Council on State Governments Justice Center in conjunction with the Pew Center on the States and the Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Hard work and dedication are important to David and he brings this commitment to the North Carolina General Assembly.  He believes that we must find a better way to conduct the business of the people and he is determined to work to that end.
