Representative Guice believes strongly that we must commit ourselves to finding a better way to conduct the business of the people. State government must elevate the voices of the people - always.

Spending and Priorities - It is important that we set priorities and stick to those priorities in the budgeting process each year. Government spending is out of control and we are missing the mark on many of the priorities facing our state, such as education, job creation and criminal justice issues. We must identify those needs that are the most important and fund them accordingly.

Education - Our parents, students and teachers need a strong voice in Raleigh to address the tough issues facing our schools. We must fulfill our past promises to pay and treat our teachers and educational employees as professionals and work daily to ensure that all of our students succeed and graduate ready to take the next educational step or begin work trained in a vocation. We must streamline our accountability and assessment system and return control to local agencies. Our educational system must be the most transparent, responsive and responsible aspect of state government. It is our responsibility to ensure that our parents, students and teachers have the resources they need to succeed.

Public Safety/Criminal Justice/Illegal Immigration - I have supported law enforcement officers my entire career. I am a retired administrator with the Department of Correction and I have witnessed first hand the dedication and duty exhibited each day by our law enforcement officers. I will work tirelessly each day to ensure that our local law enforcement officers receive the resources they need to their job effectively, efficiently and safely. This includes my support of the 287(g) program to combat illegal immigration. I will work to secure the resources that local law enforcement agencies need to continue this successful program that is geared toward removing criminals that are residing here illegally.

Mental Health - Action is necessary to fix our state's ailing mental health system. We must dedicate both the financial resources and the personnel resources to provide adequate and timely service to some of the most fragile citizens in North Carolina.

Involuntary Forced Annexation - I am strongly opposed to involuntary/forced annexation and I support the repeal of the 1959 Forced Annexation law. It is my belief that it is fundamentally wrong to force action on a group of people without a true and fair vote on the issue.
