David has worked in law enforcement with the North Carolina Department of Correction for 30 years, the last 24 years in management. Currently, he is the chief probation/parole officer in Transylvania and Henderson Counties, a position he has held for the past 16 years. Prior to this assignment, David spent 8 years serving as the manager of Parole Operations for the westernmost 27 counties of North Carolina. Throughout his career, David has worked with numerous agencies across North Carolina concerning varied issues arising within the criminal justice system.

- Former Member and Team Leader - NC Department of Correction Emergency Response Team
- As a member of the Emergency Response Team, David spent two tours in central North Carolina helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Floyd. He also participated in the search and rescue of a helicopter carrying two North Carolina Forest Service personnel, which went down near the Blue Ridge Parkway in a heavily wooded area.
