David is married to Kerry Lynne Allison of Brevard and they have 2 children, Lindsey and Colby. Lindsey, 25, graduated from Elon University in 2005, and The University of North Carolina School of Law in May 2008. Lindsey is married to Bill Smith of Brevard, NC. Colby, 22, graduated from Western Carolina University in 2008. Colby is married to Meredith Mitchell of Maryville, TN. David and Kerry are active members of Brevard Wesleyan Church where David has previously served on the Local Board of Administration.

David, and his wife Kerry, successfully owned and operated the Old Hickory House (previously known as The Carriage House Restaurant) in Brevard from 1987 until retiring from the restaurant business in 2007.
